3 Ways You can Influence Your “World”

Change. We want change. Right? Am I writing to the “right” people? I want change, I hope you do too. I desire to see change in people, pathways, culture–frankly, every arena of this life. I want to see a passion for people to be hungry for Jesus, for peace, for good and right ways. Don’t you? I’m thinking, “Yes!”

It’s easy to change ourselves, just a simple choice will do. But when in comes to changing the people outside of our control, well, that’s another story. Instead of getting frustrated that there seems to be no change, we need to shift our thinking toward an expectation of change as God moves through us to touch them. Listen, God can bring change and He will bring change through His people. If you are Christ’s, that’s YOU! Are you with me?

The wisest man to live and rule, Solomon, said some very specific things about how God’s people will impact the world around them. He revealed that God’s blessing alone on His people would release strength and favor to an entire city. The kind of change we desire, right? He also said that God’s blessing would influence that city to lift it higher. (Proverbs 11)

In order for this influence to be released, Christ followers must be seen, recognized, and known. This only takes place when we do what I like to call “put skin in the game.” In other words, we get involved. Do something!

There are three ways we get involved to release influence into the world around us;

Prayer. Presence. Place.

Prayer is the first, the last and the in between. Remember what Paul told the Thessalonian believers; “Pray without ceasing.” Prayer connects our heart to God so that He can lead us by the Spirit, prayer prepares us, prayer forges our way, prayer opens doors and makes connections. Prayer also opens the door for God to move. Remember He’s a gentleman, He doesn’t force anyone, He invites. He stands the ready to receive anyone who turns to Him. We simply must be or be becoming, a person wholly given to prayer. When we pray God will instruct. He tells us what to say and where to go.

Presence is simply showing up. All the power of heaven is at work in you, but you’ve got to show up. Show up and allow God’s presence upon you to be seen and known by everyone around you. I’m serious! Get this revelation! Peter’s shadow healed! People knew this and put their sick at the roadside so when Peter walked down the road his presence at that moment casting a shadow released healing from heaven. Come on somebody! Can you believe? Can you expect? Can you show up and let God move through you without a word? Yes you can!

Then place… What’s this? I’m saying here to be where God shows you to be. Follow favor, passion and desire, obey His leadings and be at the place God is leading you to be. God’s favor will lead you to the place He has called you to be. God’s favor opens doors, connects people, and extends invitations. Watch for these and follow Him into an ordained, powerful place.

In closing, put some skin in the game! Pray, get prayed up and go. Show up full of His presence and Word in the place where He has given you influence. Then when opportunity comes by His favor, speak the words God gives you. Rejoice and watch Him bring change as you consistently engage the place He has called you to be.

YOU are a world-changer and YOU will influence your city to lift higher! GO!
